Margaret Henderson Smith’s novel A Question of Answers is a cringingly funny book that examines the life of Harriet Glover and the embarrassing events that take place therein. Written on a number of levels the story draws on the inequalities of life and Harriet’s concern to address them. Underpinning the whole novel is Harriet’s confusing love life. At 40, often acting like a love sick teenager which gets her into all sorts of trouble.

Does Harriet even have the choice of who she actually decides to end up with? That’s the question and the dilemma of the novel. Others indecision stack up the complexities, leaving the reader still wanting more. The situations Harriet ends up getting herself into would leave most women running in fear, however this woman picks herself up only to find herself in another tight spot.

Henderson Smith has written this book in such a way that the reader is never left wishing any part of the story would hurry up. It is impossible to put this book down once you start. The writing style of this book seems to be so easy and that’s what makes it so accessible for all readers, leaving them to decide what they take from it.

This is a must read for all the women who enjoy the types of books like Bridget Jones, this book could even be read by men who enjoy the problem pages of women’s magazines. There is a feel good factor about this book and for all of Harriet Glover’s mistakes it is impossible not to like her.

If you are looking for a book for your holidays or to chill out to make sure you give this one a look, it leaves the others out in the cold.
